Vape manufacturer Juul Labs announced Monday its support for President Donald Trump’s tariff package, calling it a decisive step toward securing the nation’s borders.

On Saturday, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, along with a 10% tariff on Chinese imports. However, after discussions with leaders from Canada and Mexico, he announced a one-month pause on those tariffs. In response, China implemented increased tariffs on certain U.S. imports.

In a statement Monday, Juul Labs endorsed Trump’s decision, framing it as a strong measure to enforce his border policies..

“Juul Labs, Inc., an American technology and innovation company, commends President Trump’s efforts to protect American citizens through increased enforcement of trade laws and border security,” the company wrote.

The plan, Juul Labs said, will close a “’de minimus’ tariff loophole” allowing Chinese smugglers to bring products into the U.S. without inspection. The “loophole” permitted packages valued at $800 or less to be imported into the U.S. free of duties.

This, Juul Labs said, helped China to “flood the U.S.” with illegal vape products.

“This key provision of the America First Trade Agenda empowers law enforcement to crack down on the influx of illegal Chinese vapor products and strengthen border security,” the company added.

Trump has also won favor from cigarette manufacturers by halting the FDA’s proposed menthol cigarette ban. Members of the House Small Business Committee had warned that such a ban could significantly impact convenience store revenues.

Additionally, just days before Trump took office, the FDA approved the sale of Zyn nicotine pouches in the U.S. after conducting an “extensive scientific review” of the product.

Zyn came under federal scrutiny in 2024 when Sen. Chuck Schumer accused the brand of targeting children. Meanwhile, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene last year called for a “Zynsurrection” in response to efforts to regulate the product.
