China’s nicotine pouch industry has been a roller coaster that just took a very big climb in December of 2024 export values. According to China State Customs data, total export values reached $589,942 for the year with December documenting a stunning 500% increase to $389,136.
Between June and October, pouch exports climbed steadily before peaking in July at $66,838. August saw $50,124 in export value. This period marked growing international demand, signaling the industry’s expansion from a sluggish 2024.
The U.S. emerged as the overwhelming leader in China’s nicotine pouch exports, accounting for 96.99% of the total volume. This underscores the U.S. market’s key role in the rapid growth of the product category. Other importers included South Africa (1.12%), the U.K. (1.26%), and South Korea (0.63%).
Shandong Province stood out as the top-producing region, contributing 58.34% of total exports. Chongqing City followed with 28.80%, while Guangdong Province accounted for 12.86%. The data highlights the regional concentration of production and export activity in China’s nicotine pouch industry, reports media.
The December export surge suggests an increasing demand for nicotine pouches heading into 2025, with significant growth potential beyond the U.S. market. As global acceptance of tobacco harm reduction products expands, other countries may begin importing larger volumes.
