There won’t be any tax increases on nicotine products from the state legislature in North Dakota.
House lawmakers voted down a Senate bill calling for a 25-cent increase on cigarettes. It also would have provided an additional tax on vaping products.
Rep. Ty Dressler called the effort a sin tax.
“Senate Bill 2281 implements a large tax increase and a regressive one at that. Most of the impact falls on those that can afford it the least,” said Dressler.
The House also killed a similar bill with higher increases earlier this session.
