Nicotine consumers in New Jersey are going to pay more under Governor Phil Murphy’s proposed budget. The Governor’s line items includes a move that is expected to generate $51 million in new annual revenue buy rasimg the taxes on less risky nicotine delivery systems.
The proposal increases the e-liquid tax from $0.10 to $0.30 per milliliter and tripling the bulk e-liquid tax from 10% to 30%.Under the plan, the per-pack cigarette tax would also rise from $2.70 to a flat $3.00.
The tax hikes are part of Murphy’s broader budget strategy aimed at boosting state revenues through changes to health-related levies. The tax hike plan would hit smokers and vapers with higher costs in order to bring millions into state coffers.
