PDR Cigars has announced the appointment of Wayne Clarke as its new vice president of sales, effective July 1. Clarke steps into the role with more than 14 years of experience in the cigar industry, most recently serving as regional sales manager for Plasencia.

During his tenure there, he was instrumental in growing Plasencia’s distribution network across the northeast and mid-south regions of the United States. In his new capacity with PDR, Clarke will oversee all sales operations, working to strengthen the company’s relationships with retail partners and drive brand innovation.

“I’m genuinely excited to join the talented team at PDR Cigars,” Clarke said in a press release. “I look forward to helping push innovation, expanding the brand’s presence, and building profitable, winning partnerships with our retail purveyors. I can’t wait to get out and reconnect with our retail partners in the near future to grow the PDR family and bring new opportunities to the industry.”

Clarke’s resume includes key roles with several leading names in the premium cigar sector. He served as a sales representative for Hiram & Solomon before being promoted to general manager in 2018. His career also includes over two years as a sales manager with General Cigar Co., where he gained experience managing sales strategies for large-scale operations, as reported by Halfwheel.

Abe Flores, owner of PDR Cigars, welcomed Clarke’s appointment, expressing optimism about the company’s trajectory under his guidance.

“We’re very happy to welcome Wayne to the team,” Flores said in a statement. “I look forward to working with him and building on our strong foundation for the future. His experience and vision will be key as we continue to grow and innovate with PDR.”

The appointment comes at a time when PDR Cigars is seeking to expand its market share in the competitive premium cigar segment. The company, known for lines such as 1878, A. Flores Gran Reserva, and Small Batch Reserve, has earned a reputation for high-quality blends and artisanal craftsmanship.

Industry analysts suggest Clarke’s extensive network of retail relationships and proven track record of sales growth will help PDR capitalize on opportunities in both traditional brick-and-mortar cigar shops and an evolving online retail landscape.

Clarke’s expertise in distribution strategy, combined with his understanding of consumer trends, positions him to play a pivotal role as PDR navigates a dynamic market shaped by regulatory pressures and shifting consumer preferences.

Retail partners have also expressed optimism about the new appointment. Several independent tobacconists who worked with Clarke during his time at Plasencia noted his attentiveness to retailer needs and ability to drive mutually beneficial sales programs.

“Wayne always brought a collaborative spirit to our relationship,” said one northeast retailer who requested anonymity. “He understood what we needed on the ground to move product and keep customers coming back.”

PDR Cigars has recently invested in modernizing its factory operations in Tamboril, Dominican Republic, aiming to improve consistency and expand production capacity. Clarke’s addition to the team is expected to complement these operational upgrades by strengthening market engagement and helping the brand secure a larger share of humidors across the U.S.

While premium cigars have faced challenges from FDA regulations and shifting import policies such as tariffs, the sector has seen a resurgence in consumer interest, especially among adult smokers exploring boutique and small-batch lines. PDR’s leadership believes this creates an opportunity to deepen its reach and highlight its diverse portfolio.

As Clarke steps into his new role, he emphasized his commitment to supporting retailers and advancing the company’s position in the premium cigar landscape.

“PDR Cigars has a rich heritage and an exciting vision for the future,” Clarke said. “I’m honored to join the team and look forward to building on its success.”
