The Cigar Association of America has elected Terry Gallagher Jr., president of Smoker Friendly tobacco outlets, as its new chairman, succeeding outgoing chairman Javier Estades, the association announced.

Gallagher, a longtime executive in the premium cigar and tobacco retail sector, assumes the leadership role as the association continues its federal and state advocacy work on behalf of cigar manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. He takes over the post following Estades’ nine-year tenure as chairman.

CAA President Scott Pearce credited Estades with helping strengthen the association’s policy influence and visibility during a period of increasing regulatory scrutiny on tobacco products. During Estades’ leadership, the organization expanded its engagement with lawmakers and solidified its role as a leading national voice for premium cigars. Estades will remain on the CAA Board following the transition.

Alongside Gallagher Jr.’s election as chairman, the Board also approved a new slate of officers. Eric Newman was elected vice chair, Carrie Freed was named treasurer, and Henry Roemer was selected as secretary.

In remarks following his election, Gallagher Jr. said he looks forward to working closely with the association’s new leadership team to advance cigar-specific regulation, protect adult consumers’ access to premium cigars, and safeguard the heritage and economic contributions of the premium cigar category.
