Cigarette production in Azerbaijan surged at the beginning of 2026, with output rising over 38% compared to the same period last year, according to new government data.

The State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan reported that cigarette factories produced about 1.194 billion cigarettes in January 2026, a 38.1% increase from January 2025, according to figures cited by AzerNEWS.

The increase signals a strong start to the year for Azerbaijan’s tobacco manufacturing industry, which remains a key contributor to the country’s consumer goods production.

Azerbaijan’s cigarette market mainly relies on domestic production along with imports from regional producers. The country has several tobacco processing and cigarette manufacturing plants that serve both the local market and nearby export markets.

Government data in recent years shows fluctuations in production levels as manufacturers adjust output in response to changing domestic demand, export opportunities, and regulatory conditions across the region.

While Azerbaijan enforces tobacco control measures like advertising restrictions and health warnings on packages, cigarette use remains substantial throughout the wider Caucasus region.

The State Statistical Committee regularly releases production data for tobacco products as part of its monthly industrial output reports, providing one of the clearest indicators of trends in the country’s tobacco industry.

Industry observers note that production swings can also indicate supply-chain adjustments by manufacturers preparing for seasonal demand changes or export orders in nearby markets.

Additional production data later in the year will reveal whether the strong January output indicates sustained growth or just a temporary spike in manufacturing activity.
