Habanos S.A. has officially canceled the 26th annual Festival del Habano, ending months of uncertainty about one of the premium cigar industry’s flagship international events.

In a statement distributed to its global network of distributors on July 20, the distribution arm of the state-controlled Cuban cigar industry confirmed that this year’s festival will not be held, following a February postponement due to Cuba’s ongoing energy crisis.

“The Organizing Committee of the Habano Festival announces that, after evaluating the current situation and with the purpose of preserving the standards of excellence that distinguish this renowned international event, the 26th Habano Festival will not be held this year,” Habanos stated.

The festival was originally scheduled for Feb. 23-27, 2026, but organizers announced a postponement on Feb. 14 as Cuba struggled with recurring power shortages and broader infrastructure challenges. The postponement has now been confirmed as a cancellation for 2026.

Whether the 2027 event will take place is still unknown. Habanos said it will continue monitoring conditions with the goal of staging a future edition “when conditions allow the Festival to be offered with the excellence, scope, and quality that have made it an international benchmark.”

Despite the cancellation, the company emphasized that its broader plans to celebrate Cohiba’s 60th anniversary remain unchanged. The anniversary program will begin on Oct. 7 in London, where Habanos will introduce the Cohiba Talismán as a permanent addition to the brand’s Línea Clásica.

The Talismán was previously available only as a 2017 Limited Edition, making its addition to the regular portfolio one of the company’s most significant product announcements in recent years. “This launch will mark the beginning of an international agenda that will include new experiences and surprises for Habano enthusiasts,” the company said.

The cancellation is a significant setback for the premium cigar industry. The Habano Festival has long been Habanos’ premier global marketing event, drawing thousands of distributors, retailers, importers, collectors and cigar enthusiasts to Havana each year. The festival typically features factory tours, seminars, product launches, international competitions and charity auctions that showcase Cuba’s premium cigar portfolio.

For Habanos and its global distribution network, shifting the focus to international anniversary events enables the company to continue promoting its flagship Cohiba brand while Cuba continues to grapple with operational challenges that have disrupted tourism, manufacturing, and logistics across the island.
