Top Takeaways:

  • Leadership shake-up: Innokin co-founder George Xia has stepped down as both chairman and deputy general manager, with the company offering no explanation for the changes.
  • New management team: Li Gen has been appointed chairman, and Cui Tao will oversee business operations on an interim basis.
  • Questions remain: The company has not said whether Xia remains involved with Innokin in another capacity or whether the changes are part of a broader restructuring.

Innokin has announced a significant leadership transition after co-founder George Xia departed from both the chairmanship and his operational management role, marking one of the company’s biggest executive changes in its 15-year history.

The Shenzhen-based vaping manufacturer first announced on July 10 that Xia, whose Chinese name is Xia Haoran, had stepped down as chairman following a meeting of the board of directors, according to media reports. The company appointed Li Gen as chairman and named Cui Tao as general manager and legal representative.

A second board meeting on July 16 led to Xia stepping down as deputy general manager responsible for business operations. Innokin said Cui Tao will temporarily oversee those responsibilities but did not explain why Xia left either position or whether he continues to hold another role within the company.

The rapid succession of the two announcements has drawn attention because Xia has been one of Innokin’s most recognizable executives since the company’s founding in 2011. As co-founder and longtime public representative, he regularly appeared at international trade events, met with regulators and business partners, and was closely associated with the company’s product development and global expansion.

Cui Tao, who will temporarily oversee business operations, is also a longtime Innokin executive. Previously in senior strategy and innovation roles, he has represented the company on regulatory, compliance and product development initiatives before being named general manager.

Innokin provided little information about the newly appointed chairman, Li Gen, offering no public biography or explanation of his appointment beyond confirming that he will perform the duties of chairman in accordance with applicable corporate law.

The leadership changes come during a relatively quiet period for Innokin’s corporate communications, although the company has continued to release new products. Recent launches include the GOZEE NEX, Coolfire Z Air, Zenith II Pro, Foretex, Klypse Plus, and other additions to its hardware portfolio.

At this stage, the company’s announcements do not indicate financial distress, a sale of the business, factory closures, or a withdrawal from the vaping market. Innokin continues to develop and release products, but the company has not explained the reasons for the leadership transition or whether the temporary management structure will become permanent.
