A Senate panel in Oklahoma on Tuesday approved a bill that would ban smoking tobacco, marijuana, and vapor products in vehicles when a child is present.

Under Senate Bill 23, violators would face a fine ranging from $50 to $100.

The bill, sponsored by Sen. Brenda Stanley, passed the Senate Public Safety Committee with a 5-3 vote and now moves to the Senate floor for further consideration.

Sen. Regina Goodwin, who opposed the measure, noted that while she doesn’t smoke, cigarettes are legal, and some people are addicted, media reports.

“Yes, they are dangerous though,” Stanley responded.
