The Premium Cigar Association (PCA) has appointed Ricardo Carioni as its new Director of International Affairs & Education, effective September 1, 2025. This strategic move underscores the PCA’s commitment to expanding its global presence and enhancing educational initiatives within the premium cigar industry.
Carioni brings over 18 years of international experience to the role, having held senior positions in various organizations. Notably, he served as the Chief Operating Officer at Tor Imports in Great Britain and as the Chief Executive Officer of Gesinta, Spain’s leading premium cigar distributor. Most recently, Carioni was the Head of Business Development at Casa Turrent, a prominent Mexican cigar brand.
In addition to his industry roles, Carioni co-founded The Cigar Academy in March 2024, an educational institution aimed at preserving and disseminating the rich heritage of cigar making. The academy offers courses and certifications for consumers, retailers, and industry professionals.
Joshua Habursky, Executive Director of the PCA, expressed enthusiasm about Carioni’s appointment, stating, “Ricardo is a catalyst who brings a ton of energy and passion to any project. His expertise will allow the PCA to refine existing projects and help service our growing membership ranks.”
In his new role, Carioni will be responsible for developing and implementing the PCA’s education strategy, strengthening international alliances, and creating programs tailored for U.S. retailers in the Caribbean Basin. He will also serve as the chair of the PCA’s Education Subcommittee, leading initiatives that promote cultural exchange and thought leadership within the industry.
Carioni expressed his dedication to the industry, stating, “As a proud Latin American, I believe in the cultural and economic importance of this industry—not only for my home country but for every producing nation, every importing nation, and every aficionado who understands premium cigars as a cultural heritage of humanity.”
