Police in Kerala, India, announced Wednesday that they destroyed what is believed to be the state’s largest illegal cannabis farm, located deep within the Attappady forests in northern Kerala’s Palakkad district.
A joint team including the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), the district anti-narcotics unit, and Pudur Police traveled nearly five hours to reach the cultivation site at the foothills of Sathyakkallumala, authorities said.
At the site, officers found around 10,000 cannabis plants, about three months old, covering roughly 60 hectares of land. All the plants were uprooted and destroyed immediately.
Police said the raid was prompted by intelligence received from Kerala ATS DIG Putta Vimaladitya, who alerted Palakkad district police chief Ajith Kumar to coordinate the operation, according to media reports.
“This was one of the biggest ganja cultivation raids ever conducted by Kerala Police,” an officer remarked. An investigation is ongoing to identify the perpetrators and uncover connections to broader illegal drug networks.
