JTI has a new man in Manila, and Alan Jackson has plenty on his plate.
The 19-year veteran of Japan Tobacco International has been named general manager of JTI Philippines, bringing international leadership experience from Tanzania, Canada, and, most recently, South Asia, where he served as vice president of marketing and sales.
“The Philippines is an important market for JTI, with talented people, strong partnerships, and significant opportunities ahead,” Jackson said. “My focus is on building on these strengths and continuing to grow the business responsibly and sustainably.”
Jackson is taking over manufacturing of Winston, Camel, and Mighty in the island nation as the company expands its next-generation portfolio, which includes Nordic Spirit nicotine pouches and Ploom Aura heated-tobacco products.
Illicit cigarette sales remain a major challenge in the Philippine market, and smuggling has drawn increasing attention from government authorities and legitimate manufacturers.
“Illicit trade remains a serious challenge that no single sector can address alone,” Jackson said. “Continued collaboration between government and industry will be critical to protecting government revenues and maintaining a fair and competitive market.”
