British American Tobacco is expanding its digital and technology operations and plans to launch a new Information, Digital, and Technology hub in Bengaluru, India.
The company said the new facility will house its newly created Future Capabilities Centre (FCC), which BAT described as a global hub for technology capabilities, innovation, and digital operations.
The center will be in Bengaluru’s Fraser Town district, one of India’s largest technology corridors.
“We are building BAT to be more agile, data-driven and fit for the future, with technology playing an integral role in our transformation journey,” said Javed Iqbal, BAT’s interim chief financial officer and director of digital and information. “Our new Future Capabilities Centre in Bengaluru — India’s premier technology hub — taps into one of the world’s leading technology ecosystems, giving us access to outstanding talent and strengthening our ability to scale innovation.”
BAT said recruitment is already underway for new highly skilled positions tied to the hub, including roles focused on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data analytics and digital platforms.
The company said teams at the FCC will collaborate with strategic technology partners to support global operations and drive continuous improvement across the business.
The expansion comes as major nicotine companies increasingly invest in technology infrastructure, AI capabilities, and advanced analytics as they transition to broader “smokeless” and reduced-risk product portfolios.
BAT has continued to position itself as a “multicategory” nicotine company centered on products such as Vuse, VELO and glo, alongside its traditional combustible cigarette business.
The company has repeatedly emphasized digital transformation and data integration as part of its long-term strategy, particularly in consumer engagement, supply chain management, regulatory compliance, and product development.
Bengaluru — often called India’s Silicon Valley — has become a major destination for multinational technology, pharmaceutical, and consumer goods companies seeking access to engineering and software talent.
BAT said the new FCC reflects its broader effort to embed technology “at the core” of its operations as it adapts to changing global market conditions.
