The French National Assembly recently unanimously adopted a bill to ban disposable vaping products, also known as “puffs” in the country.

On January 23, the joint committee responsible for shaping the legislation approved a bill amending the Code of Public Health to enforce the ban. The bill will be examined by the Senate during the second week of February.

Without an agreement, the language of the bill may undergo a new reading. In case of persistent disagreement, the government may ask the National Assembly to make a final decision.

In this case, it seems likely the law will be approved, which would make France the second EU country to ban disposable vapes after Belgium, where the ban officially came into force early last month.

The bill received support across all parties. If passed, the bill would make the import, sale, and distribution of vaping products illegal.

Offenders would be liable to a fine of €100,000 ($103,833) for a first offence or €200,000 for a repeat offence.
